For decades, Texas has been a center for groundbreaking medical research, with a robust network of academic and research institutions, including seven of the nations top medical schools. Additionally, the state has funded initiatives which are leading the fight against cancer through the largest medical complex in the world, Texas Medical Center in Houston.

More than 5,200 biotech and life sciences related manufacturing and R&D firms operate in Texas. In 2021, Texas became tied with California for the most Tier 1 institutions of higher education. In addition, we boast over 500 community college districts that support the industry with nurses, doctors and technicians.

Houston Community CollegeHouston Community College, also known as the Houston Community College System (HCCS), is a community college that operates community colleges in Houston, Missouri City, Greater Katy, and Staffordin Texas. It is notable for actively recruiting internationally and for the large number of international students enrolled, over 5,700 in 2015. Its open enrollment policies, which do not require proficiency in English, are backed by a full-time 18-month English proficiency program and remedial courses.
