About me
Alan Lessig is an award-winning documentary filmmaker and photojournalist, known for his compelling storytelling and dedication to science communication. He won a Lone Star Emmy and two Gold Telly awards in 2024 for Muraling Austin, a project produced for PBS by Nelda Studios, and has worked for major media organizations, including USA Today, Defense News, Military Times, and The Detroit News. Alan was also a member of the Pulitzer Prize-winning team at the Louisville Courier-Journal.
Currently, he is part of the team producing Touching the Sun, a multi-platform PBS project on the science and symbolism of the Sun. It’s anchored by a documentary film that probes our closest star – its mysterious origins, savage power, and life force energy – and follows the people who uncover its scientific secrets and celebrate its symbolic meaning. It dives into the science of the Sun’s influence on the Earth and solar system and examines the current and historical cultural context of Sun watching and Sun worshiping across time and cultures.
