Elizabeth Suarez serves as President and CEO of the McAllen Chamber of Commerce and the McAllen Economic Development Corporation, where she leads a unified economic strategy in partnership with public and private-sector stakeholders to drive business growth, workforce development, tourism, and the recruitment of new industry. Under her leadership, the Chamber and McAllen EDC have strengthened McAllen’s position as a regional economic anchor, supporting existing businesses while attracting new industries and advancing job creation and talent development, including the successful recruitment of major international manufacturing investments such as Valeo. Elizabeth brings 26 years of executive-level public service experience spanning economic development, transportation, and aviation. She previously served with the City of McAllen as Transit Director and later as Director of Aviation. During her tenure, she spearheaded major infrastructure projects with significant regional and international impact, including the McAllen International Airport Expansion Project ($26 million, 2015), the McAllen Downtown Parking Garage ($9 million, 2009), and the McAllen Intermodal Transit Terminal ($4.9 million, 2001). Elizabeth holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Political Science from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. In recognition of her leadership and public service, she was inducted into the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame in 2023. A lifelong McAllen resident, Elizabeth is honored to lead in a community she loves. She and her husband, Andrew Muñoz, have been married for 24 years and are the proud parents of two daughters, Anahí and Sofía.
